lessismore record label, founded in 2003 by the dutch dj and producer alexis tyrel together with mbc, has been home for mostly his own releases under all his monikers and various artist compilations. �return to planet alpha� continues in this tradition, being a second long-player of alexis tyrel after his debut �newtradition� from 2011.
�return to planet alpha� is a collection of elegant techno tracks which instead of following the now so popular dark and destructive path focuses on daily moods and airy atmosphere, which is closer to open air and lounge than to sweaty pits of contemporary rave. but that doesn�t mean that the twelve tracks are just indistinctive background music. for one thing, tyrel is a master of slick and tight beat foundations of kick drums and bass, often smoothed out with cool synth pads, onto which he layers all kinds of rhythmical chains, subtle melodic ideas and sounds ranging from vintage synths and industrial bits to organic textures and even field recordings.

the fourth release on bjarki and johnny chrome silver�s bbbbbb records, comes hot on the heels of the first. two and three are limited run, vinyl only, hand stamped releases to be sought out from your local dealer. bjarki returns as cucumb45 with the 5-track ep �something weirdcore�. on the surface there are elements of jungle, breakbeat, techno and rave, but to say this spans genres would be an understatement � it defies them. the title track instantly commands attention with breaks samples offset against indecipherable robotic groans and melancholic chords, but a sudden change of drum pattern shows this is more than a reprieve of known territory � it�s a voyage away from the limits of tempo and genre. this theme is explored throughout the ep by way of unnerving stripped back techno (akureyri), electro with subtle inflections of dancehall (comatack) and even a big beat/dub influenced jam (music for advertising). as cucumb45 plays with genres as we know them, so he does with the emotional resonance of the release. frequently switching from euphoric to anxious, each track is a testament to his incredible attention to detail. simply put, this is music for those who hate to be labelled.

out for a moment supra comes back in full swing! for its return the parisian imprint presents a collab between super talented french producer onelight and one of the label�s dearest and biggest influence, the legendary egyptian lover. after tuggspeedman, a first release supported by busy p, gilb�r and machinedrum, onelight continues here his musical path with this silver ep. silver is a sophisticated blend of electro funk, break beat and techno. the song is inspired by his obsession for silver rings and more precisely for their sound, spiritual and magnetic energy. who else than the californian legend egyptian lover can provide here some hypnotic vocals? indeed the 808�s king takes his inspiration from all the symbolic of rings and gems and brings to the song his very unique and charismatic touch. maxillaire is going slower but is definitely powerful. it sounds like a 97 bpm techno music made for a space travel soundtrack with a codeine cup. label boss luc supra and orestt (evrlst / mb labworks) team up as supra allstars and deliver the silver deep re rub that appears to be the perfect bridge between detroit and l.a. definitely one for the clubs !

having lurked in the tape scene for many moons, al-90 brings his dishevelled house sound to the dancefloor with this single for tape throb. despite the name of the label, this is in fact destined for vinyl, and leads with the fuzzy yet funky cheremushki groove, assisted in the process by monokle. there s a whiff of gerry read s dusty production values present on fluid, but al-90 seems locked into a more discernible beat. that changes on cataract with its degraded hardcore breaks drowning under a sea of unforgiving processing, while tape throb label boss the cyclist is an appropriate choice of remixer to finish the record with a crunchy yet focused version of cheremushki groove

the new york-based (u)nity is made up of michael valeanu, axel tosca laugart, chris smith, max cudworth and amaury acosta. they formed the band in 2006 as a project to explore afro-cuban jazz, funk, soul and contemporary electronica. they say they ve been influenced by everyone from chucho valdes to art blakey to led zeppelin to kendrick lamar, and you can definitely hear all of that in this jawdropping work. guarapachanga is special in that it was the first song written by the band back in their days as music students at the new school. it s derived from the style known as guarapachangeo the most advanced form of cuban rumba, heavily improvisational and based on very complex rhythms and melodies. on this recording, (u)nity is graced with a guest performance by grammy award winner pedrito martinez, a master rumbero, one of the greatest conga players ever, an innovator who has left a permanent mark on cuban music. martinez is also a priest in the yoruba religion and a historian of cuban culture. over its eight and a half minutes, guarapachanga twists and turns and journeys through a mind bending array of different tempos and modes, from latin jazz to hip hop, ultimately ending with a trippy ambient soundscape. the whole thing is overlaid with free spirited melody, soul and the afro-cuban essence that is the bands lifeblood. the white-hot live playing gives it the feel of the best early-morning jam session, yet it packs a sonic punch that will make it sound incredible on a good sound system in the hands of adventurous djs in the world-beat or spiritual-house vein. if you didnt know guarapachanga was a contemporary work you might mistake it for a loft classic, yet it s also as fresh and exciting as anything you ll hear this year.

days of being wild continues their collaboration with berlin based french producer franz matthews, releasing his first solo ep, the spacey, cosmic ostkreuz. half of the duo languages, whose 1st ep the label released at the end of last year, franz matthews explores a very different sound on his first solo effort, all space disco, retro synths and funky guitars out. title track ostkreuz has been road tested by the days of being wild crew on dance floors all around europe all of last year and has created euphoria and anticipation in equal measure. this is a cosmic hit from outer space, all constructed around well known ingredients that thanks to franz matthews musical and melodic talent rise here to epic heights. the b-side guns of rixdorf is another devastating peak time tune. while remaining in the same vein as ostkreuz, it feels more high energy with its irresistible funky guitars calling and responding over a driving bass. days of being wild always try to pair producers with remixers that will shed a new light on their work. its no exception with ostkreuz, who gets the reinvention treatment from no other than moscoman and rodion aka the claydermans. the cosmic vibe is still here hovering on top in the opening chords of the remix, but soon enough a sub, housier bass makes its way in the mix and wont let you go until the end. carried by shuffling claps and a bouncier beat, the groove here is totally re-invented, taking ostkreuz from peak time to the darker edges of after land.

in this session we hear the result of each jouster as they each chose one or more jazz musicians from the united states and began to work with that sound and come up with an instrumental in their own style, just like in season four. however there was a twist, this time they were challenged to focus on jazz between the years of 1960 to 1969. see what you think of the outcome...

mihai popoviciu has carved out a reputation for being one of the most innovative producers of electronic music active in europe today. the man from romania has established himself both as a highly respected producer releasing on labels such as highgrade, international gigolo and dessous and as a killer dj performing all over the world. fiction is his 4th release on poker flat recordings, and delivers four distinct flavours to sink your teeth into. i should is a slinky groover, with a slippery, evolving bassline, tight, funky percussion and a sultry female vocal. working just as effectively early in a set as a peak time moment, its bound to get rinsed in the coming months. twisted is a little harder - a straighter beat signals a more heads down approach, and the bassline is sure to trigger some dancefloor scenes wherever it gets played. next up is title track fiction which perhaps makes a reference to mihai�s background, with fragments of eastern european melodies woven into the beautiful synth work, all tied together over a spacey yet driving rhythm track. last but by no means least is interconnected - a straight up deep bomb with echoes of classic chicago deep and acidic house in its warm and sensual vibe.

stl on smallville always means something special- fully-functional for the dancefloors worldwide but always poly-rhythmic, full of cryptic surprises and with the iconic stltwist. youll be caught within just a beat. full cover artwork as always by stefan marx.

time runs fast and it s time again for our annual vinyl release. for our second delivery we have on board two of the best producers in the techno panorama, no other than tensal and p.e.a.r.l.
tensal opens the release with his own particular version of the original, enforcing the beats adding white noise sweeps, twisting the sound and rearranging the structure in a clever and hypnotic vein. following on b2 a special edit version of the original mix.
on b side p.e.a.r.l. is on remixing duties offerin a raw beat exercise as remix one and a more complex rework as bonus remix to close the release.

jasss is an outstanding sound artist and dj (playing resident at the mannequin records night in berlin). raw and pure, she returns with an instant-classic second single for death of the machines. es complicado is a percussive a-side driven track, a passionate industrial/futuristic wink to the past, while �no chanche� on the b side is opening a new path for her productions. the mind sick samples from the 1966 bergmans masterpiece persona leave the track - as the movie itself does - in a climax wrapped by a variety of interpretations, moving from tribal new beat rhythms and ending into an acid nightmare. tip!

fifth interval gather together some of the most forward thinking minds in the dub techno sphere for this various artists ep. those already acquainted with the label will be familiar with the likes of federsen and tomas rubeck, who headed up the first and second releases respectively. they are joined by dub techno luminary brendon moller, aka beat pharmacy and alessandro crimi, for this four tracker of perfectly contrasting arrangements. federsen opens the proceedings with the sunset sequence of bay blues, cascading keys rolling through the gaps in a subtly broken drum arrangement, making for effortless and captivating listening. beat pharmacy contributes his first original material to the label after a brace of remixes last year. showing true mastery of the board, chromed chord stabs are pushed and pulled around the mix in true dubwise style, drifting over a malleable bassline that packs a serious punch. on the flip side, tomas rubeck crafts a tightly woven backdrop of constantly evolving, organic atmospherics and powerful drum work for io, and this muscular workout is perfectly contrasted by the swung grooves and kaleidoscopic synthesis of alessandro crimis fractal clouds, which closes the ep.

maurizio martinucci (aka tez) is being warmly welcomed back into the frigio fold. following his work with most significant beat, a partnership with saverio evangelista of esplendor geometrico, this italian artist, and member of clock dva since 2010, is flying solo on new wings: pragma.

after his successful �i�m made of stars� lp last year, michele pinna brings his time traveler moniker back to his chronicles diary imprint with �chapter v: chronicles from 1957�. following the label�s concept �chapter v� is dedicated to his mother anna maria and time is being stretched back to her birth, where past and future seem to collide through time traveler�s dystopian vision of techno. a1 opens the ep with an industrial killer groove and time traveler�s distorted vocals prompting to follow him in an out of control journey. a2 rushes in with a more mental and compulsive beat, where synths and percussions converge. on the flip side, we find b1 infused with hypnotic modular melodies and intense rolling analog grooves. b2 concludes time traveler�s journey with its finally crafted, hammering beats, ecstatic bass synths and drum patters.

timmo follows up his debut drumcode release we beat on with a brand new 4-tracker packed to the rafters with his own unique blend of techno. his productions are getting plays from the likes of adam beyer, joseph capriati and richie hawtin amongst others, 2017 is set to be his biggest year yet. timmo s unique sound has captured the eyes and ears of many highly revered techno djs around the world and his system release is a stark reminder of exactly why this is. intensify is a big room record that is set to do some real damage on dancefloors worldwide. this peak time tool thumps through 7 minutes of power, dragging you in and throwing you out the other side as the track rolls on. the maze is an example of his excellent production, with his use of synths on a level that some producers take years to hone. system is a haunting track, authentic four-to-the-floor techno that screams in to top gear right from the off. the release closes with the more groove and bass line laden together . one of those tracks that is guaranteed to get stuck in your head

the ichinen project was born from the strong music connection between roberto bosco and kiny - both producer, performers and founders of last drop records imprint - and from the need to share their personal music concept. finally, this year they returns on their label with the first official track under new ichinen monicker. the title-track, a morning without glory, is indeed a unique melting pot of the different music approaches and visions. the track is determination at its purest form: a relentless 4/4 beat impulse, constantly striving and spaced out by industrial and metallic sounds that convey its deep and atmospheric imaginary. truly abstract and experimental techno that goes beyond its ordinary stylistic logics. on the b-side one may find a morning without glory reviseted at this time in two evocative interpretation by the most renowed artist in the nowadays techno scene. the first one is by dasha rush with a summer light remix, with a more serene and organic version of the original track. the last one is by etapp kyle who prefers to highlights low frequencies

in 1979, emma dorgu decided it was time to act. he�d torn up the lagos live scene with the thermometers and conquered the airwaves with the single, �world people�. but there were injustices afoot, not just in nigeria, but in south africa and zimbabwe and across the continent as well, and he felt that something needed to be done. roverman was his politicized call to action. blackman akeeb kareem lent him the instruments and let him rehearse in his sitting room. dorgu sets his stall out early in the reggae-tinged �free my people� calling for freedom for south africa, freedom for zimbabwe, indeed, freedom for all. thankfully political injustice hadn�t rid emma completely of his urge to get on down. the new york ghetto funk of �roverman� and �loving� and the straighthead boogie of �afro fever� leaven the message with a funky beat and an irresistible pull towards the dancefloor. on roverman emma dorgu has achieved that that rarest of beats, an album that challenges your mind while it speaks to your feet. protest music has never sounded so funky.

house music with love turn once again to swedish duo swim for a record soaked in a particularly soothing bath of balearic goodness. original track -be there- is certainly laced with an air of scandinavian cool, not least thanks to erika rosen s dreamy vocals, but there s a solid boogie undercarriage carrying the music along. halllo halo step up with a remix that makes a playful, intricate broken beat refrain out of the backing track while maintaining the vocals. ghost immanuel meanwhile whips up a spacious dub that stays close to the original, albeit in instrumental form.

this record definitely takes a bit more of a layered approach - natan h offers us yet another unique, immersive, and charismatic release for acid camp records. acid camp records is rolling through again, this time with an artist known for his atmospheric and cosmic-oriented tracks, natan h. conveying inspiration for this record, just a little nod to extrasensory experiences and perception, is undoubtedly fitting for acrs second release. the opening track, atmosphere, breaks away from 4/4 timing with o-kilter drums that traverse into a heavier beat, pushing the track forward just to bring it right back at the end. followed up with a remix from techno serialist, conforce. through his use of a low pass filter, polyrhythms, and fervor conforce delivers a track nothing short of the prototype for driving techno. remote view pt. i turns out an ambient break and taking the listener to a space of the ethereal and planetary. the ep closes with remote view pt. ii, which incorperates layers of hi-hats, delayed strings, and synths that alternate throughout the arrangement in syncopation.

after the success of the broad and powerful second lp alone in time?, Ø phase continues his ongoing connection to token with the submerged metropolitan ep. the title track enters with burchett s own brand of unease, the lead is tense and discordant, moving over a bumpy, rolling kick. brushing off-beat hats rush overhead and play delicately with this unease above the thunder. a vague spoken word sample adds texture and contributes to the cerebral edge. ethereal swells and intense rhythmic play introduce fallen columns, which delves into atonality with keys that add a controlled recklessness to the composition. this absent mind takes on a hypnotic, dubby form with a confidence that belies its complexity. a sublime breakdown introduces the heavier second half of the track, which enters impressively and batters on to the end.
